This capture was made possible by simply walking over the Roosevelt Bridge! This bridge features many sculptures on it, and this one in particular represents Chicago's Museum Campus- where the Field Museum, Planetarium and Shedd Aquarium call home.
Shot form the Sears Tower at the beginning of sunset. The shot captures the city's North Side, along with some key icons like Ogilvie Station, the John Hancock building, Lake Michigan, and the Chicago River. I then isolated only the cool colors to emphasize the fact that it was a brisk winter's day.
To capture light trails, I as a Nikon user employ the shutter priority feature to achieve this kind of shot. You just set the ISO low as it can go, put your camera in a secure and immobile spot, click the shutter and let the magic of light absorption do its job. Light streaks are some of my favorite images to capture. I called it the Kennedy Krunch because anyone who’s ever driven on the Kennedy knows it crunches many things, your time, your soul, you know…
This is definitely one of my favorite captures of the city. This vantage point is from the South of the City near Burnham Harbor, and let me tell you, one of the best places of the lakefront hands down. There is so much uninterrupted beauty down there, and there are several parts of the lakefront in that region that allow you to get up close and personal with all kinds of rocky and sandy waterfront with gleaming skyline views. This picture may seem as clearly Chicago is not in the tropics, however, I assure you, the water really does become that amazing clear turquoise color, and on the right days with the right light, pictures like this are quite easy to capture, I barely altered this image.
This shot was taken on my favorite shoot in recent memory. The day was extremely windy, and therefore the sky, weather, and aesthetics of the light kept constantly changing. It was a rare opportunity to capture images of the city with truly unique lighting conditions, such as in this photo where almost the entire skyline is hiding behind a shadow, and even in the foreground where the walkway is. BUT, yet you have the lake and the lakefront architecture biennial piece perfectly illuminated in a streak of crisp light etching its way across the composition, and THAT is what makes me so satisfied with this capture. This was taken using a wide angle lens.
A shot taken with a zoom lens that shows one of the arteries of Chicago (the el train) as well as the impressive and widely eclectic styles of architecture, that can be found along the Chicago river. I have never been to another city that has such a grand variety of buildings from all different periods harmoniously interacting and sharing space; the Chicago river is something truly unique in that sense. Pictured here we have some of the iconic Chicago architectural icons such as Marina City, The Carbon Carbide Building, and the Aqua. There is a somewhat ice feel to the picture, probably because it was about 12 degrees Fahrenheit.
This stimulating nighttime shot was an 8-second exposure that managed to capture the unique relationship between water and light. The curving and bending light rays flow through the water as if the water were a prism. The calm water was the perfect scenario for elongated yet unified beams of light. Cheers to night shoots!
Taken in the summer of '14, this glorious shot taken from North Avenue Beach certainly looks stunning on metal. The colors reflect and change as the light changes. These are one of a kind pieces!

This vibrant panoramic shot from the marshes at Lincoln Park represents one of the wildest and colorful sunsets I have ever seen! I only brought out the colors of the piece I did not change any of them, the sunset was truly that unbelievable!
From the coldest day I've ever been on the lakefront! A stunning -24 degrees with windchill made this one of the most difficult images for me to capture. I did it for you guys!

This shot was taken during a lovely twilight at Wolf Point, Chicago. I used a long exposure technique to absorb the light and then highlighted and accentuated the yellow, orange, and pink hues to express the crazy colors that are present even after the sun dips below the horizon.
